Flu shot, schmoo shot

I was so proud of myself for getting a flu shot last December. Well guess what? I’m sick.

I had a sore throat last Tuesday which over the course of Wednesday turned into a full-out head cold. I’ve been knocked out since then (our outing to the scuba-diving show in Utrecht last weekend was quite ill-advised, no pun intended).

I visited the doctor today and was informed that I have a mucus build-up in my upper lungs and need to rest and “be patient a while longer” while the illness runs its course.

According to Discovery Health, the flu vaccine has a 60-70% success rate in preventing the virus. Most cases occur in January and February. I can certainly agree with the second point.

So, I would like to publicly apologize to my dad, because I kind of used extortion to get him to get the shot this year. Sorry, Dad. I hope you don’t get sick, too.
