Saving the Environment One Lawn Mower at a Time

Today we got our reel lawn mower delivered. We ordered it earlier this week on Amazon and (thanks to our Amazon Prime trial) received it after just two days with free shipping! Most people in this country have a gas-powered lawn mower. In fact, 90 percent of lawn mowers here are gas-powered, and these 1.3 million gas-powered lawn mowers account for about 5 percent of the nation’s air pollution! That’s shocking!
The heavy box with our Scotts 20-Inch Classic Push Reel Lawn Mower was delivered by UPS and a half hour later I had it all assembled and ready to go. Assembly was nothing more than putting the handle together with 10 easy wing bolts. Some of the reviews on Amazon said that it was hard to get the foam part on the handle and talked about using dishwasher soap to slide it on, but our handle already came with the foam part attached. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!
Our lawn is still recovering from the cold weather so there is not much to mow yet. We just pushed it around a few times to test it, and it was running very smoothly. So far it seems like a very sturdy and capable piece of equipment. I’ve been quite disappointed with the quality of a few other things we’ve bought on Amazon lately. After getting our Mighty Mite vacuum cleaner, which got great reviews on Amazon, I was so disappointed with the floppy plastic parts. Back in Holland even the cheapest vacuum cleaner half the price of the Mighty Mite has at least a metal wand. I find on a lot of things that the overall quality and sturdiness of things in this country leaves a bit to be desired. All made in China, I guess.
The lawn mower is now sitting in our garage waiting to cut some grass. I look forward to running it across our lawn and getting some exercise while saving the environment.
