The Mickey Mouse magazine had its start in Bulgaria as a bi-monthly title in 1991, moved to monthly frequency in 1992, was published bi-weekly in 1993 and, as of 1999 appeared weekly.

Egmont Bulgaria updated the magazine concept to include more editorial content. The comic stories are now accompanied by activity pages, games, detective stories, anecdotes, readers' letters and pages on music, sports and films. In addition, a special gift is offered with each issue.

The frequency change was supported by print, broadcast and outdoor advertising, and was focussed at 1999's Mickey Mouse anniversary show held in Sofia each April. Mickey Mouse is now the only weekly children's magazine in Bulgaria.

Mickey Mouse is one of children's favorite magazines with its humorous comic stories and editorials. Before fall of 1994, the comic was till monthly. To celebrate the switch from monthly to bi-weekly in 1994, Rudi Ludwig, Vice-President of The Walt Disney Company (German) and Anders Hoiris, Vice President of Egmont - Eastern Europe, visited Bulgaria. On their tour, Rudi and Anders met with the minister of Education 2 children's shows organized by Egmont Bulgaria in Sofia's largest department store and the National Theater Square.

Following the shows, Mickey and Minnie appeared to attend school opening ceremonies at an orphanage, a kindergarten and a school. The visit received extensive attention from the radio, TV and Press.
