A highly successful product from GP is Donald Duck Extra, which is a compilation of comic stories from the very successful Donald Duck weekly magazine. Printruns are above 40000 copies per issue.Donald Duck Extra is a monthly comic since 1986, and contains a large variety in stories. All Don Rosa stories are not published in the Donald Duck Weekly, but in the Donald Duck Extra! That's very sad, because the quality of Donald Duck weekly is better than that of the Donald Duck Extra. However, the publishers think Rosa's artwork is not their style. Furthermore, Donald Duck Extra contains mainly Danish stories. Except for the last page, the magazine features stories only. The last page has some extra things, like jokes and "Did you know?"s. Since 1995, readers have been able to subscribe to Donald Duck Extra, in addition the the weekly magazine. Extra's 13 issues per year, containing all-standard character comics, have been available through retail since 1982, but were opened to subscription in January of 1995. The target was to obtain 6,000 subscribers in 1995, but that target was already met in May! -- proof that Extra Donald is in hight Demand! |
