Mickey And The Gang: Classic Stories In Verse
Posted on January 23rd 2006 in Disney booksI’m a big fan of the Disney Treasures DVD series by Leonard Maltin, and this superb new book by David Gerstein is as equally well researched and put together. I must admit that I had actually never heard of the Disney pages in Good Housekeeping Magazine that are collected in this volume, but I’m glad to have them now in this collection as they are just simply wonderful.
Mickey And The Gang: Classic Stories In Verse was published in November 2005 by Gemstone Publishing (publisher of Disney comics in the United States). In the handsome 360-page coffee-table book David Gerstein describes in intricate detail the story behind each Disney page from Good Housekeeping Magazine that appeared from 1934 to 1944. These story pages in GHM were really ad pages that were utilized by Disney to both promote their cartoons and act as springboards for other merchandising.
Gerstein has scan scavenged the Disney Archives for material to accompany each beautifully drawn page, such as cartoon storyboards, merchandise, Disney comic pages and the like.
The book is very reasonably priced on Amazon right now for just under $20, which makes it a great bargain. If you like Disney comics or the Disney Treasures series or vintage magazines you will love this book!
