Buzz Lightyear blasting off at Disneyland Paris

Posted on March 24th 2006 in Disney parks, Europe

This week the brand-new attraction Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast had a surprise soft-opening at the Disneyland Paris park as visitors got a sneak preview at this fifth incarnation of the popular attraction, which first opened in 1998 as Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. There will be shareholder and annual passholder previews this weekend and next week, and the official opening is scheduled for 8 April.

The new indoor dark-ride is located in the Disneyland Park’s Discoveryland, in the building which formerly housed the popular “Le Visionarium” circle-vision theatre attraction. Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast will be similar, but not identical, to attractions found in other Disney parks, such as Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin and Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. Guests of this interactive ride use their hand-held laser gun to shoot at targets and rack up a score which is displayed on the dashboard of their ‘Space Cruiser’, which is a vehicle that can spin around 360 degrees. At the end of the ride you can compare your score to the Space Ranger rankings and see how you did.
