New Floyd Gottfredson Library in ItalyPosted on April 24th 2010 in Italy, New Titles
Gli Anni d’Oro di Topolino (Golden Age of Mickey Mouse) is a new series of gorgeous books that collect 45 years of work by one of the greatest cartoonists of all time, Floyd Gottfredson. Gottfredson is best known for his work on the Mickey Mouse comic strips. Starting in 1930, he created thousands of daily strips and Sunday pages with the mouse, which have been recolored for this new library.
A total of 38 books of 160 pages each will be released weekly from March through November. They sell for €9.99 (approximately US$ 13) each and are available online from this website
(it looks like international orders are possible).
I wish they would make something like this for America.
I’m not even a big Mouse fan, but I’d buy this if it were in English in the States. For that matter, I’d also buy an English version of Picsou. I savor the classic, quality art in each issue, and remember the plots of many stories, of course, but it just isn’t the same as English-language versions.
This seems like the sort of project the folks at Gladstone or Gemstone would’ve loved to have been able to do for the U.S. market. With BOOM Studios, it’s like the return of Disney’s in-house publishing days…we get “Wizards of Mickey”, secret agent Donald, more “DuckTales” and “Darkwing Duck”, as well as some half-hearted “Classics” hardcovers…at least we get a little Gottfredson in some of them.
Nope, no international orders. I have created an account at the website, but I’m not allowed to chose my home country (Sweden) as shipping address.
There is an information text in English: “This address is only valid for the registration, on the next
page you can insert an Italian shipping address”
And it seems to be just like that, on the “next page” only Italy is valid.
If there is a way, please put a comment here… I’d like to order some of these books.
