Edimpresa cancels classic Disney comics in Portugal

Portuguese publisher Edimpresa has announced the cancellation of all their monthly ‘classic character’ magazines like Pato Donald (“Donald Duck”) and Tio Pathinas (“Uncle Scrooge”), shifting focus to pre-school magazines (eg. Read Italian Wizards of Mickey series, free on official website

Ten-part fantasy series Wizards of Mickey started in early October in Italian weekly Topolino (“Mickey Mouse”) magazine, and now the official website of the series (www.wizardsofmickey.com) features past chapters of the serialized story as free downloads! Gemstone to suspend four of its six monthly titles

Due to raising paper prices, Gemstone Publishing in the United States has indefinitely suspended its four monthly titles Mickey Mouse and Friends, Donald Duck and Friends, Mickey Mouse Adventures and Donald Duck Adventures. Should paper prices fall, or better marketing opportunities present themselves, the Baltimore-based publisher might return some of the suspended series. More »

Winnie the Pooh turns 80 today

The first book of Winnie the Pooh, by writer Alan Alexander Milne, came out in England on 14 October 1926, which makes the bear 80-years-old today. Winnie the Pooh soon became popular with children and adults alike, and when Walt Disney acquired the rights to the Pooh universe in 1961, the adventures of the chubby little bear were captured forever on film. DCW now has an affiliate Amazon store where you can browse and buy Disney comics and books. The store lists all the U.S. comics from Gemstone Publishing, like Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories and Donald Duck Adventures, as well as other titles like W.i.t.c.h. and Kim Possible. Amazon also has several Disney magazine subscriptions available, such as Disney Adventures, weekly German Micky Maus magazine and Anders And & Co from Denmark. More »

Wizards of Mickey starting in Italy this week

This week Italy sees the launch of a new 10-part series in weekly Topolino magazine; Wizards of Mickey stars Mickey Mouse, Goofy and Donald Duck in a new world of wizards, castles and bewitched lands. The story was created by Claretta Muci and Stefano Ambrosio and features beautiful colors by Roberto Santillo and Marco Ghiglione. Disney and Infomedia to launch Disney Adventures magazine in India

Walt Disney India has tied up with Infomedia India to launch an Indian version of Disney Adventures. Disney Adventures is currently published in the United States and Australia. The Indian version has been adapted to meet the requirements of Indian kids in the age group of 8-12. The new 100-page magazine will be published monthly from October 2006. More »

German Micky Maus Magazin celebrates 55th anniversary

Micky Maus has had a huge cultural and educational influence on German society in the last 55 years. Since the first issue of weekly Micky Maus magazine came out on 29 August 1951, generations have learnt new words and expanded their vocabulary from reading the fantastic adventures of Mickey Mouse and his friends. Nobody had thought that the magazine would become what it is today; over 90% of Germans have heard of Micky Maus magazine, and half of the German population today have learnt to read with it. More »
