Mickey Mouse, or 米老鼠 as he is called in China, was launched in 1993. The comic is slightly larger than the standard Mickey Mouse comis published by Egmont in other countries. Each issue comes with a small toy, and the stories inside are mostly those produced by Egmont Comic Creation in Denmark.
With this move, Egmont's Mickey Mouse magazine, which was published throughout Eastern Europe prior to the launch in China, is pushing further east-ward for regular publication in China. A contract signed in spring of 1993 between Egmont and the Chinese Post Office allowed the magazine to be published monthly. The goal was to sell one million copies per month. In October of 1993, the Disney Club started to air in China every week. The magazine was advertised during the program.
