The launch of a new weekly Mickey Mouse magazine in the United Arab Emirates took place on 22 September 1994. The launch was supported by 20-second television spots, large newspaper advertisements and press releases. Mickey is aimed at children ages 6 to 12, and is printed in full color on glossy paper. The magazine combines comics with locally produced activity and puzzle pages. It was first published by Al-Futtaim Universal Trade Publications, from Dubai and was cancelled in 2000 for three months, after which it was picked up by Dar Al-Qabas from Kuwait. In 2004 it returned to be published from the UAE by Al-Arabia for Journalism, Publishing and Distribution, Abu Dhabi.
Mickey is a weekly comic that comes out every Thursday. Its comic stories are targetted at all ages, and issues also contain editorials, such as reviews of old and new Disney animated feature films. After 6 years it shifted toward a more younger audience aged 6 to 12. Currently each issue features 4 to 5 short stories.
