Uncle Scrooge McDuck was created by the legendary Carl Barks in 1947. The tightwad got his own very popular title in 1953. It has since been published by Dell, Gold Key, Whitman, Gladstone, Disney and Gemstone.
In September 2009, the series was picked up by BOOM! Studios, who obtained the license to publish Disney comics in the United States earlier that year. The title was changed drastically with this latest relaunch. Gemstone Publishing had targeted the title at collectors and published Uncle Scrooge in a 'prestige format', selling at $7.99 and publishing a wide variety of new stories from Europe and old classics.
Since issue #384 by BOOM! Studios the series has returned to its original 'floppy comic' format, selling for $2.99, and printing long adventure stories that span multiple issues. These stories are later collected and reprinted in trade paperback and/or hardcover.
