February 2002
Evenstad + Oslo, Norway
In February of 2002 we went to Norway for five days. The reason for this trip was to go to Evenstad, the place where Amy's ancestors came from. The first two days we drove up north to go to Evenstad. The last three days we spent in Oslo.

3/28 Here we have arrived in Hamar, which is famous for it's large ice rink which was used for speedskating in the Lillehammer winter olympics. Our hotel was right across from place, which looks like an upsidedown viking ship, hence the name Vikingskippet.

4/28 After arriving in Hamar we still have a few hours to walk around the city. There's lots of snow everywhere.

6/28 The big day we leave very early in the morning. It will be a long and slow drive up north. The higher we got the more snow was on the road.

7/28 At around 9 in the morning we arrive in Evenstad. The 'big' road is on the other side of the river Glomma. Here is a sign to Evenstad which brings us over the big wooden bridge.

8/28 Evenstad was nothing more than a few farms spread far apart, a forestry school and this red church. Unfortunately the church was closed (at first) so all we could do was walk around it.

13/28 We could contact someone to open the red church by going to the government building of Koppang, an hour driving north of Evenstad. On our way we had a drink at a small restaurant / shop.

14/28 On our way back to Evenstad we found this other white church. It was just outside of Evenstad.

15/28 Around this white church were a lot of graves. Many of them were Evenstads.

16/28 Someone could open the red church for us after calling around and talking to a lot of people. The church was built to honor Anne Evenstad. Inside the red church we were looking for a big Evenstad book. Something Amy's family had talked about. Unfortunately we didn't find it.
