The year 2006
We began 2006 in Deerfield, then backpacked through Rajasthan India in March, canoed and camped in Brittany, ate tapas in Madrid, and dived in the Oostvoornse Meer. In October we go to he Florida Keys.

1/25 On New Year's Day we were in Deerfield visiting Amy's parents and we had a long walk at Illinois Beach State Park. See more photos

2/25 On 29 January we visited Zuid Kennemerland National Park, just north of Haarlem. See more photos

3/25 On 12 February we went to the Rembrandt Ice Sculpture exhibit at Groenenoordhallen in Leiden. See more photos

5/25 on 18 February we visited our friends Mike and Tina in the German town of Werne, where they gave us a tour of the historic center. See more photos

6/25 On 25 February we went for the first time to Vogelplas Starrevaart, a bird lake south of Leiden. We would go there many times later in the year. See more photos

7/25 On 8 April we went to Amsterdam for Museum Weekend. We visited the Tropenmuseum, Verzetsmuseum and Allard Pierson Museum. See more photos

8/25 On 22 April we drove around the province of Flevoland and visited some nature parks and bird hides. We also saw a group of dozens of deer.

9/25 From 3 to 22 March 2006 we traveled around Rajasthan in India. We saw the Taj Mahal in Agra, bicycled around Keoladeo NP at Bharatpur, saw tigers at Ranthambore NP, played Holi in Jaipur and saw many forts and palaces. See more photos

10/25 On 6 May we had an excursion with Natuurmonumenten at Zwanenwater, an area of dunes along the coast with two large lakes. See more photos

11/25 On 27 May we made a practice dive in Nemo 33, the deepest swimming pool in the world, in Brussels. See more photos

12/25 On 28 May we made a long drive around Noord Holland, following many nice small roads along dikes where sheep roamed free.

14/25 On 9 June went back to our diving roots and dived in Oostvoornse Meer, the same place where we finished our PADI Open Water course last year. See more photos

15/25 15 July was Rembrandt Festival in Leiden as it was his 400th birthday. There were a lot of activities and people walking around in period clothing.

16/25 On 19 August we made a big drive around Zeeland and had some walks along dikes and visited the nice town Renesse.

17/25 From 25 to 27 August we visited Madrid in Spain, for Arthur's 30th birthday. We visited the Palacio Real, Museo del Prado, Plaza Mayor, El Rastro and some very nice parks. See more photos

18/25 On 9 September it was Openmonumentendag, a national event. Leiden opened 30 monuments, museums and historical buildings for the entire weekend. We saw some rare works of Escher at the Town Hall.

20/25 On 30 September we went to Parnassia entrance at National Park Zuid Kennemerland and made a very nice walk through the dunes. We saw a little egret in this lake.

21/25 From 12 to 21 October 2006 we stayed at Key Largo in Florida and made several dives and visited the keys and Everglades National Park. We saw many alligators, birds, sharks, rays, deer and manatees. More photos »

22/25 On 4 November we drove to IJmuiden and walked down the long South Pier where we saw a Little Auk. See more photos »

23/25 10 to 12 November we had our annual family weekend. This year it was in Gulpen, Limburg. We went to a bear brewery and a market in Tongeren, the oldest town of Belgium.

24/25 On 25 August we went to Arthur's family in Roosendaal for Christmas.

25/25 This is our cat Arby on his new IKEA pillow on 26 December.
